Why did you join DeviantArt and what made you continue staying on DA?
`evanhwong (https://www.deviantart.com/evanhwong) First of all, hello and thank you for this! I started photography back in
I am refusing to use the rebranded name because, I'm annoyed about the rebrand. I'm annoyed about your direction, your lack of focus in key areas and your lack of communication. I said I'd never be a bitter former staff member, but it seems that I am.
Last year you spent a lot of money on a rebrand, this year you've cut 50% of your work force, entire departments have been decimated and peoples lives have been thrown upside down without notice. But you never really communicated to anyone why. You still don't, you're not telling the community what's happening and that's only going to hurt you. People will see that helpdesk tickets take longer

 What's the theme?
Photojournalism, as in deviantART's photo category. [Photojournalism gives us newsworthy photographs wherein the primary motivation is to recount a story not assist a story. If you're with me, chant this mantra over and over: "Photojournalism = Newsworthy Photographs". If you're not sure, imagine if your photograph would land on your daily newspapers.]Some exa
In a week it will be April 15th, 2015. Which in my memory is the day fifteen (15) years ago that we embarked on a new project we'd come to call DeviantArt. jark (https://www.deviantart.com/jark) and I agreed for him to wind down projects on the DMusic Network and instead focus his energy on a similar platform for an emerging group of digital artists we were watching closely as fans. Soon after, he found matteo (https://www.deviantart.com/matteo) who was working on an education resource for digital artists known as WastedYouth.org and asked him for some perspective on the project. As a high functioning digital artist and photoshop master (I believe he had co-authored a book on photoshop by this time at age 18!

The Timeline of deviantART
In 2014, DeviantArt turned 14 years old. Fourteen years is a long time, some of you reading this may be younger than that. I've gathered some historical information with the help of moonbeam13 (https://www.deviantart.com/moonbeam13) and some members of the Community Relations team to help enlighten those of you who have joined in recent years and missed out on a chunk of DeviantArt's life.
I hope you enjoy taking a step back in time!
Please note: it is extremely difficult to track down some events in DeviantArt's history (in particular, the first few years) and that some dates are only approximate.

Previously known as ^estudio, Evan is a former independent documentary photojournalist (editorial reportage) in and around Asia with American and French press photo agencies. When not at work in his day jobs, which he is currently shackled down to in Singapore, he'll be seen walking around the city with his BeastGrip'ed iPhone 6 Plus, so if you suddenly see him walking up to you and point the lens into your face, don't freak out.
It's just Evan.
Evan is also a Photography & Photojournalism deviantART Senior Mentor. For more on how you would wish to be mentored, go to seniormentors
